Field & Flow, A Dream Come True

I've always been a go getter! Add some crazy passion in there and, baby, watch out!!

Here I come a swingin'!

A dream of hosting a plein air painting retreat came to me at the end of 2018... by January '19 I had the go from my generous in-laws to use their vacation home in McClellanville, SC. Next: name the dream! So there I sat with art books stacked all around me in the floor of Barnes n Noble trying to find the right two words. I love alliteration so I started with words that begin with "f" like my first name. Field & Flow was born a couple of hours later on that January day (Get it? …out in the "field" letting our paintbrushes "flow".) and I worked my booty off marketing it for the next 3 months! I named Marissa Vogl of Myer Vogl Gallery as my featured instructor. I knew that her bubbly personality and teaching style would be the cherry on top of this dream!

Not only did we get a few artists to take a chance on a first time retreat, but we FILLED it!

Students enjoyed listening to Marissa discuss color outisde of the Dupre House, our retreat home for the weeeknd.

I loved adding in little personal touches to make the weekend that

much more special for the attending artists.

When it got a bit buggy out (the south will be the south), we did not fear! The Dupre House has an amazing front porch perfect for painting from life in the natural light.

Check out this amazing student work! Blooming artists indeed!

The amazing Lowcountry views are endless in this adorable little shrimping town! McClellanville is certainly a dream location for a painting retreat.

I was so grateful for my hubby! Not only because he has generous parents with the perfect retreat home, but also because he made an amazing chef for the weekend! Lamb with a honey balsamic reduction? How about some Lowcountry boil? Yes, please!!

Painting outside is always such a treat (bugs, rain, or wind permitting;) ! Painting outside while learning and growing along with your new paint buds is a memory!

I am so grateful for Marissa Vogl, a friend and BIG inspiration, for accepting my invitation to be my first featured oil instructor and for the INAGURAL NINE who attended our retreat!

The paint flowed... and so did the convos and the wine. We built a community.

And I'm doing it again this weekend with the Smith twins

I am one happy and expectant hostess!
